Yankee Prospects Offer a Glimpse of Promise to Come

Clint Frazier’s home run in his MLB debut was a high point in a recent stretch of poor play for the Yankees.

The New York Yankees have definitely hit a rough patch of late: they have gone just 6-16 in their last 22 games, have fallen out of first place in the AL East, and have had to deal with several key players going on the disabled list in rapid succession.

But all hope is not lost! While veteran starters like Matt Holliday, Starlin Castro, Aaron Hicks, Greg Bird, and Tyler Austin recover from their injuries, the Yankees have been forced to recall some of their top prospects to fill the void.

While the results have been predictably inconsistent, there have been some serious flashes of brilliance from the young players that have been recalled, including Tyler Wade, Miguel Andujar, Dustin Fowler, and Clint Frazier. Each of these players still has a long way to go in their prospect growth curve, but the early returns have been encouraging enough to where Yankee fans can’t wait to see more of their vaunted prospect core.

The current state of the New York Yankees is a scary one.  While the playoffs are still well within reach, the aging roster’s struggles of late have led to lots of panic and concern from fans of the Bombers.  But help is on the way in the form of September Call-Ups.  In case you didn’t know or need a refresher, MLB teams may expand their rosters from 25 to 40 men in order to provide reinforcements down the stretch.  With the Yankees’ prospect core as potent as it is now, it is likely that we will see many exciting prospects recalled.  Here’s a preview on who will likely be in Yankee pinstripes down the stretch run. Happy Severino Eve everyone!  Tonight is the night that Luis Severino will make his major league debut for the Yankees versus the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium at 7:00 on the YES Network.  Expectations will be unreasonably high for Luis in his first start, but I think that the kid will be able to put in at least a quality start.  But Severino isn’t the only Yankees prospect worth keeping tabs on, oh no.  Don’t look now, but the Yankees have one of the top prospect cores in all of the major leagues rocketing through the system.  Let’s take a look at the Yankees’ top 10 prospects as of August 2015 and check in on their progress and stats as we enjoy the dawn of the age of Luis Severino.
