The Philadelphia Flyers’ identity crisis is over.
The team has finally discovered itself as a grinding, blue-collar bunch that doesn’t buckle in the face of extreme adversity. This has allowed the Flyers to win 5 out of their last 6 games, including an exciting 2-1 shootout win over the Detroit Red Wings. That latest victory has them just two points out of a playoff spot as of Monday night.
On the other hand, the Toronto Maple Leafs are treading water.
Losers of five straight games, Mike Babcock’s team has run into the obligatory wall. Losing star forward James van Riemsdyk to injury sure hasn’t helped, but Toronto’s main issue is on the back end, where they have allowed the 11th-most goals in the NHL.
